Column of the Holy Trinity (1647)

Via IV Novembre, Tarvisio

posizione/location

For the Catholic faith, the number three has strongly symbolic connotations.

The number three can be seen in all elements of this column: the three faces of the column itself, the triangular base and the three reliefs in the upper section representing the Crucifixion, the Annunciation and the Trinity.

The column may have been made to give thanks for the end of an outbreak of the plague or for salvation from danger.

There is even a hypothesis that it was also used to tie up and pillory wrongdoers, which is why it is also known as the “column of the infamy”.
