Bust of Kajetan Schnablegger

Tarvisio

posizione/location

1843 - 1894 born in Weissenfels (Fusine in Val Romana), he was a skilful and far-sighted businessman, owner of the zinc and lead mine in Raibl, as well as land, pastures, forests and numerous buildings, including the best hotels in Tarvisio in the 19th century.

He was also mayor of Tarvisio and a regional councilman for Carinthia.

His greatest endeavour and success was the promotion of firstclass tourism in Val Canale.

He established the sulphurous water baths and showers in his hotel in Malborghetto (nowadays “Palazzo Veneziano”) using the water of the Rank River and started the practice of natural remedies (bathing with hay and pine needles).

He invented the tourist trails and was the first to advertise his hotels with brochures.
