On the day of the celebration of the Holy Innocents on 28th December, children sing this ancient rhyme in Slovenian or German language: “Schipp-Schapp, live long, stay healthy, give willingly, Schipp-Schapp and all the best for the new year”.
As they say the rhyme, they hit an adult with a pine branch in memory of the massacre of the innocents by Herod, and are rewarded for this auspicious ritual with some coins.
