Fusine in Valromana

Fusine In Valromana, Tarvisio

posizione/location

The Fusine lakes consist of two lakes, (higher and lower lake).

They are considered to be some of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Europe. The lakes are of glacial origin and are situated in a limestone bowl created by the slopes of Picco di Mezzodì of the Mount Mangart (2,677m).

The valley that runs parallel to the border between Italy and Slovenia has been a protected area since 1971 and is known as the “Parco naturale dei Laghi di Fusine”. The higher lake is 929 m above sea level, reaches a maximum depth of 10 m and covers 9 hectares, while the lower lake is at 924 m, reaches a maximum depth of 25 m and covers 13.5 hectares.

Higher lake feeds the lower from underground, and the lower lake feeds the river leading from both lakes.

The walkpaths around the lakes are beautiful and evocative at any time of year.
